The Task
Now you are informed that you win a budget award to travel abroad with your group. However, before leaving, your group has to design your travel plan based on the weather and scenery of where you are going to visit. The activity consists of 2 tasks. In the first task, you will learn the basic information of seasons, which will help you finish the travel plan. During this section, a group drawing of the patterns of the Earth and the Sun in different seasons will be created and finally posted on the broad outside the classroom. In the second task, you are going to plan your journey based on the effects of “seasons”. Use the group Wiki to create and revise the travel plan.

The Process
Before starting the task, you should 1) choose your group members and form a group of three; 2) discuss with your group members to figure out which country outside the United States your group want to visit.


TASK 1:
(Individual work) Browse the information from the provided websites and video with the following questions:
1) How is the axis of the Earth?
2) Why there are seasons?
3) Do different parts of the world share the same seasons at the same time? If not, what are the differences of the countries located at (northern or south hemisphere)?
4) How does the sunlight hit the Earth in different seasons?
5) Would the length of daylight and darkness varying with the seasons? If so, how would they change in different seasons?
Step 2. .

Step3. (Group work) Share your drawing of step 2 with your travel group and then work out a revised new drawing Draw the pattern of the Earth and the Sun in different seasons individually.

TASK 2: Travel plan design
Step 1. In your group, there are the following three roles. Choose the role of different group member.

1) Weather Investigator (in charge of providing weather information to support the travel plan)
2) Plan Designer (In charge of selecting the places of interest)
3) Conductor (in charge of creating a detailed schedule of your )

Step 2. Create your group Wiki to design your group. (Consult the following sample form)
Your travel plan should include “Date & Time” and “Destination”, such as or what time your group has to go back to the hotel to have a rest.
Also, as the sample form, “Reasons” why your group designs this step is a necessary part of your travel plan. It is supposed to be the theories you learn from the task 1. For example, your group will go back to hotel at 16:00, because it is in the winter and night comes earlier. (this part, “reasons”, should be worked out by the whole group)
